Limited Evacuation
WEST BOUNTIFUL – On April 25, 2026, officers with the West Bountiful Police Department found explosive material at a residence near 1100 W and 1400 N while investigating another call. West Bountiful Officers were joined by responders from the South Davis Metro Fire District and the Davis County Sheriff’s Office Bomb Squad who determined that the explosive material was believed to include dynamite.
West Bountiful Police Department secured the property while Bomb Technicians from the Davis County Sheriff’s Office Bomb Squad evaluated the explosives. Due to the age and condition of the material, Technicians took steps from April 25th through April 27th to stabilize the material for safe disposal. There was no immediate risk to the public throughout the stabilization process.
On April 27th, residents within 2000 feet of the residence were asked to evacuate as a precaution during the disposal process.
A county emergency alert system broadcasted the message to cell phones and emails in a larger radius than intended. County emergency management is reviewing the alert process to prevent confusion with future alerts.
Bomb Technicians successfully disposed of all explosives on scene, and residents were allowed to return home at approximately 12:10pm. There is no current public safety concern.
West Bountiful Police Department continues to investigate circumstances relating to the presence of the explosives. One arrest relating to the explosives has been made at this time.
The Department and the City express thanks to Davis County Sheriff’s Office Bomb Squad, South Davis Metro Fire, Davis County, surrounding police agencies, and all of the first responders for their assistance.
